Instagram is Reportedly Testing Longer Reels Uploads

By: Leanne Lambert

Instagram is reportedly testing longer Reels videos of up to 10 minutes in length. The feature is currently being tested with a small group of users, and it is not yet clear when it will be rolled out to everyone.

The move comes as Instagram faces increasing competition from other short-form video platforms, such as TikTok. TikTok allows users to create and share videos of up to 10 minutes in length, and it has become incredibly popular in recent years.

By expanding the length of Reels, Instagram is hoping to attract more users and creators to the platform. Longer Reels could be used to share more in-depth content, such as tutorials, behind-the-scenes footage, and long-form comedy sketches.

It is also possible that Instagram could use longer Reels to compete with YouTube for longer-form video content. However, it remains to be seen how successful Instagram will be in attracting users and creators to the platform with this new feature.

Here are some additional details:

  • The longer Reels videos are being tested in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
  • The feature is only available to a small group of users at this time.
  • It is not yet clear when the feature will be rolled out to everyone.
  • Instagram has not commented on the test.

The expansion of Reels to 10 minutes could have a major impact on the short-form video landscape. It will be interesting to see how TikTok and other platforms respond to this move.
